Welcome to the British Council School

An exceptional British and bicultural education

The British Council School champions holistic learning for life for children and young people between the ages of 2 and 18, with a focus which goes beyond the purely academic.  Our students leave us with the skills they need to succeed globally: bilingual young adults, with an excellent academic foundation combined with deep social responsibility, graduates who are self-aware and self-confident.  Our students go on to take up their place at leading universities in the U.K., Spain, the U.S.A. and other international destinations.

The British Council School, founded in 1940, was the first British school in Spain. Our students are at the centre of everything we do and our mission is to help each and every child to achieve their full potential.  It’s no surprise that The British Council School’s motto is: “Be the best you can be!”.  As well as outstanding achievement, our academic programme fosters a passion for languages, literature, performing arts, sports and public speaking.

Our Educational Mission

As a British school in Spain, we believe that we must promote both Spanish and British culture.  As a result, our students enjoy the best of both worlds.

Our educational model is based on the English National Curriculum, which guarantees a high standard of education and consistency in teaching methods. We bring out the best in all our students by focusing on their individual needs and strengths.

From Early Years (Foundation Stage) to Secondary (3 – 16 years), 80% of our classes are taught in English. The remaining 20% is taught in Spanish, including Spanish language and literature.

In Secondary, the curriculum is adapted so that students can take both the British IGCSE exams and the Spanish University Entrance Test (EvAU). Between the ages of 16 and 18, our students follow the British Council School’s Bilingual Baccalaureate (BiBac®), a unique academic programme designed by our expert, specialist team. Students choose the subjects to study, as well as the language in which they are delivered in (English or Spanish).  This is how we achieve truly multilingual learning.
