This year, after all the rain, it seemed as if Spring was never going to arrive. At long last we had some sunshine in April and as we do every year, we were ready to greet Spring with some of the best Music.
On Friday the 13th and Tuesday the 17th of April, our students, with the help of the Music Department organised two afternoons of film soundtracks in the auditorium in Secondary. On these two days, the Secondary Spring Concert of Orchestral and Choral Music performed soundtracks from all-time classic films: Raiders of the Lost Ark, La La Land, Shrek, The Godfather, The Muppets, Star Wars, The Mission, The Greatest Showman, Grease, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Fight Club, Artificial Intelligence, Ironman, Jungle Book, Wizard of Oz, and Austin Powers.
And, as every year, our Rock Band and Big Band also took part in one of the most anticipated days of the year: the concert at the Hard Rock Cafe, on the 20th of April. This was a memorable occasion, a full house as ever, with some parents even listening from outside, with our Secondary students playing a wide repertoire, from jazz to bossa to the hardest rock.
The concert is also an example of the commitment and solidarity with one of our most important values, Caring. All the ticket sale monies, which this year was over 1.100 euros, will go towards setting up a music room inside the La Paz Hospital. This wonderful project, which has been designed by the music therapy department at the Hospital and with which, we have been working for the last three years, will be a space for a recording studio and practice room for sick children.
And also to celebrate Springtime, on the 23rd of April, we had the first of 9 “Piano & Friends” concerts, organised for parents and lasting around an hour. In total, more than 200 students will take part in these concerts. 7 will be in Primary, one in Early Years and one in Secondary.
A very warm welcome to Spring and a very warm welcome to the Music and talent of our students...
