Our choir students in Secondary and the SacapelaS Group, joined the voices of other choirs from three different international schools, to celebrate Europe Day at the Choirs for Europe Concert. This is a special event sponsored by the European Commission, which brought together on one stage, over 200 voices singing for Europe.

Accompanied by our Music Directors, Rupert Damerell and Eric Peters, our choir students in Secondary performed “In Flanders Fields” and “Osifuni Mungu”, this last rendition in Swahili. On their part, the SacapelaS sang “Waiting on the World to Change” and “Stand by Me”.

According to Eric Peters, “the Concert was a great success, putting together some very different groups under the banner of “Choirs for Europe. It was a celebration of unity through a common experience in song”. This impression was shared by a very appreciative audience who were treated to a varied performance, in different languages, including English, German and Swahili.

Alongside students from the British Council School, the other international schools taking part were Deutsche School Madrid, Luther Schule and San Patricio. The golden finale to such a great event, was when they all came together at the end, singing the well known: “Sure on This Shining Night” by Morten Lauridsen and “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon.

An unforgettable Concert, in which our students shone once again, as they performed together and individually, singing for Europe.
