In February, the new British Ambassador to Spain visited our School, for the first time. Accompanied by his wife, Hugh Elliot walked around Early Years, Primary and Secondary sections of the School, was able to speak with the children directly, and saw for himself, the various education options at the British Council School. The students really enjoyed the opportunity to meet such an important visitor, getting to know the UK's highest ranking representative in Spain.
A member of the diplomatic service since 1989, Hugh Elliot assumed his role as the new British Ambassador to Spain last summer. He launched a strong message across social media, praising our bilateral relations and looking to develop a new phase in the vibrant relationship between the two countries.
Elliot takes over from Simon Manley. In the past he has worked as an English teacher at Salamanca University and Spain was actually his first diplomatic posting when he was younger, in the 1990's. Both his children were later, also born in Madrid.
It was a real pleasure for the School to welcome our Ambassador and to be able to show him the work which our great family, the wider British Council School community, does.
