We wanted to really celebrate International Childrens' Rights Day and we did so by running our first MUSICATHON. This was a music marathon with around 100 of our students working with our Music team and Carlos Jean. What was our goal?: to write a song to help end violence aginst children.
As part of a wider programme of activities, students in both Primary and Secondary spent the weekend creating and composing music. Their aim was to “make families more aware and more sensitive to the need to protect children and defend their rights”, explained Andy Mackay, the Director of the British Council in Spain. Funds will be donated to the Spanish Red Cross.
The winning song will be broadcast through social networks and all profits from Spotify and Youtube downloads will be given to the Spanish Red Cross.
“We believe that music is a common language for both children and adults. That is why we have organised this activity, so that children can express their ideas and feelings in a clear and dymanic way, explained, Gillian Flaxman, Headmistress at the British Council School. “It is our duty as teachers to show children and families, that they have to respect children and should condemn situations which infringe on their rights. Music is the perfect medium to give voice, to those who cannot speak out for themselves”. Our students were able to enjoy themselves, show off their talents and at the same time learn a bit more about their own rights, children´s rights.
Song lyrics:
Violence is not OK so listen to the DJ!
Violence is not OK so listen to the DJ!
Violence is not OK so listen to the DJ!
Te doy mi respeto y tú me das el tuyo
No me juzgues
Soy igual que tú
No me juzgues
Soy igual que tú
Injusticia
Manifestación
Menos violencia y más diversión
Dare to help and you’ll make a change
Dare to help and you’ll make a change
CHORUS (x2)
Limpia tu conciencia
Dile no a la violencia
Don’t shut down
Scream out loud
Rap:
¡Oye tú! Yo voy a por ti
Tu vida está acabada no te librarás de mí
Hola Señor Bully
¿Te acuerdas de mí? Ahora he crecido y no te tengo miedo a ti
Mis años de tortura ya han acabado
Ahora lo que queda ya está en el pasado
You’re feeling small
And you bully
Because it makes you feel tall
Why use violence when you can use love
Why use violence when you can use love
What you are doing is wrong and you know it
Make it stop
Don’t do it anymore
Aquí todos luchando por la valentía
De cambiar este mundo en el que vivimos
¡No tienes licencia para la violencia!
CHORUS (x2)
Limpia tu conciencia
Dile no a la violencia
Don’t shut down
Scream out loud
Don’t destroy people’s hearts
Cause there’s no point in hurting people
No, No, No, Stop that now
No, N,o No, Stop that now
We should not hit, insult or hurt others
We could make a difference in the world
All the children have the right to have fun
The right to be loved
The right to have friends
Don’t shut down
Scream out loud
All the children have the right to feel free
The right to feel safe
The right to learn things
Don’t shut down
Scream out loud
CHORUS (2)
Limpia tu conciencia
Dile no a la violencia
Don’t shut down
Scream out loud
No uses la violencia
Y usa la paciencia
