Since 1990, the UN has celebrated the International Day for Older Persons on the 1st of October. The aim is to promote respect for those people over 60, to eradicate discrimination based on age and as a way of acknowledging a life of hard work and commitment.
The School is not one to let such an event pass by and so each year we celebrate it with different activities and workshops in Early Years. That´s why our children have brought into School photos of their grandparents, uncles and aunts or another older person with whom they feel a special bond. And they have talked about these during School Assemblies.
What´s more, during the whole week of the 1st to the 5th of October, the children in Reception and Year 1 were able to invite into School their “favourite older person”. They were able to share with all their classmates, their stories, their daily activities and their anecdotes.
As they do every year, our children really enjoyed this small but emotional tribute to those older people whom they love so much, and from whom they also learn so much, on a daily basis. To all of them, we offer our respect, our love and our recognition for the magnificent job which they carry out at the very heart of their families.
