The little ones at School had a really fun day last Friday, as we celebrated St George's Day, the patron Saint of England, on the 23rd of April. They were dressed in red home clothes and treated to a very special storyteller. They learned about the legend of St George.
Although there are many different legends around St George, the most famous of these is the one about the dragon who was petrifying the inhabitants of a village in Lybia. One day, the dragon was about to eat the people's Princess, but she was rescued by St George, who happened to be passing by. The King was so grateful for his daughter's safety that he offered St George a bag full of gold coins. But St George refused these and told him to give it to the poor in the village instead. Since then, St George has become a symbol of good, triumphant over evil.
