This was the purpose of our Year 9 students who on the 11th of March, took part in our first Debating competition. Debating is one of those important genres in public speaking which can go from transmitting information to motivating an audience or simply telling a story. Our students learn to speak in public from an early age. This develops useful skills which will benefit our students throughout their professional working lives.
The ability to learn, to understand, to see somebody else's point of view, the ability to trade arguments. These are some of the skills which are necessary in these kind of competitions. Good speakers are able to change people's opinions and feelings, not just provide information. Our students managed to achieve this in 3 different live debates at School. Our Debating Club was made up of 6 teams with 4 people in each team.
