Once again this year, the Big Band and the Rock Band sold out, at the charity concert held at the Hard Rock Café in Madrid. Over an hour and a half of great music for a great cause, raising funds for the Children´s Music Therapy Programme at the La Paz Hospital. A resounding success both on the musical and on the fund raising fronts. 1.100 euros were collected which according to Salud Madrid will enable the programme to cover 11 hospital departments and allow for some research as well as buy more instruments.

Organised by our teachers Kevin Robb (Musical Director of the Big Band), and Diego Zamorano and Luis Dávila (Musical Directors of the Rock Band) the concert did certainly not disappoint. We have had excellent feedback from the Hard Rock Café, Salud Madrid and the Autónoma University of Madrid (UAM). All of these commenting on the professionalism of our students and expressing their gratitude for their participation in this most beautiful and essential project for sick children.

In fact, on the 14th of November, there was a new Hard Rock Café Music Hall inaugurated at the La Paz Hospital. This means that young patients there, will be able to have Music Therapy sessions, play instruments, record a demo tape and pretend to be rock stars. The space is part of the Children´s Music Therapy Programme and has been created thanks to the funds received from the Hard Rock Heals Foundation. This is the body which supervises all their charitable activities and with whom the British Council School collaborates each year, to stage such successful concerts, just like this latest one on April 5th.

Also present at the concert were Mr Javier Cobas, Deputy Director and Head of the the Mother and Child Unit at the La Paz Hospital and Mª Jesús del Olmo, Director of the Music Therapy Masters Programme at Madrid´s Autonoma University. They took the opportunity to express their thanks and to explain a bit more about the “TOGETHER WE ROCK” initiative, which delights so many children happy.

We were once again very proud to be able to witness the talent and commitment of our students. Congratulations on a great success!
