Strong effort and competitive spirit are normal at the British Council School and our Family Olympic Days are a very good example of this. In November, our KS3 and KS4 students gave their all, together with their Families and their teachers across some very exciting days together. The eventual winners, beating the other Families, were KS4 WX Family (MBR) and KS3 V Family (PMO).

Our School Family method is a pioneer in the Spanish education system. Amongst other advantages, it promotes the sense of belonging to a group, solidarity, tolerance and teamwork. From the ages of 5 to 18 years old, students develop relationships and friendships which last their entire lives. The youngest ones feel protected and the oldest ones develop roles of responsibility. These relationships between children of all ages promote their social skills.

As part of this system, one of the students´ most exciting days in the School year is definitely Family Olympic Day. Athletics, jumping, throwing, sack races and relay races, choreographed exercises... Exciting, adrenalin filled events and healthy competition developed through our Family system. The day manages to combine athletic prowess with other values, so important for the School, such as, fair play, teamwork and loyalty. And, of course, there is no lack of clapping and cheering in recognition of the effort and endeavour to get the best results.

Many thanks to all of our students for their enthusiasm and their energy. Our appreciation also to all the volunteers, Family Leaders and teachers for their motivation. And, of course, our thanks also to the PE Department for all their logistics and race organisation. Thank you to everyone for making this Family Olympic Day, despite the cold weather, yet another unforgettable day!
