The British Council School proudly recognises musical excellence at the Music21 award ceremony. The diplomas handed out are a testimony to the excellent results and the academic effort exhibited by our students. In what was a very exciting Awards Ceremony held at the School Theatre on the 23rd of October, more than 200 students received their diplomas for successfully completing the ABRSM and Rock School exams.

The Spanish and British national anthems interpreted by a selection of students from the KS4 & 5 Orchestra and conducted by the expert baton of Rafael Villanueva, opened the event. Marek Dabrowski, our new Music & Performance Leader welcomed everyone and spoke about some of the latest news in the Music department. He also congratulated all the students, particularly those that have finished at the School and have gone on to some of the most prestigious universities outside Spain, achieving some very good grades in individual instrument exams. This was followed by a speech from Luis Davila, our Percussion teacher whose words of praise focussed on the talent, emotion and effort of our students.

We also enjoyed some excellent musical interpretations which delighted the audience. One of these by the first piano student from the School to sit the Rockschool exams and another by the student with the highest mark in drums.

In the ABRSM exams, 3 of our piano students got the top marks possible and we should also highlight, that for first time ever, one student this year received a Distinction in their ARSM Performance Diploma. Both parents and teachers were full of excitement given the extremely high quality performances on show.

The certificates were handed out by teachers from Rockschool in the piano, guitar and percussion categories; and by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in the cello, flute, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, clarinet, violin, theory, singing and piano categories. All in all a fabulous ceremony with a very proud send off from our School Headmistress, Mercedes Hernández Estrada.

Our most sincere congratulations to all the teachers for helping our students achieve their highest marks ever and of course, to the students themselves for all their commitment, their effort and their enormous talent!
